some of us imagine that
we are helping to save the planet--
our planet--
by carefully saving our plastic bags
& reusing them &
saving the clears and the blues
for our bottles
and cans
and our
office papers.
And some of us
save stuff
don't throw
stuff away
becuz we can't-
it's too beautiful
or it's an idea
a clipping
about falling in love
getting thinner or firming the flab.
But then
we learn it's not true.
That our careful sorting is for naught.
That They/ the powers in charge
Are not
recycling it and
never were
because it's too expensive so
let's make it worth more than
it's elements and use the useless
til weve saved ourselves.
So we make art from it & make it priceless
